Nearly every Wednesday evening since last September, I\u2019ve been teaching a class at my church on\u00a0The Chronicles of Narnia<\/em>. Using the traditional order, I\u2019ve completed\u00a0The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe<\/em>,\u00a0Prince Caspian<\/em>,\u00a0The Voyage of the Dawn Treader<\/em>, and\u00a0The Silver Chair<\/em>. Last Wednesday, we began\u00a0The Horse and His Boy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When I started this spiritual journey (and that seems an appropriate description for it), I wondered if adults truly would see the depth C. S. Lewis put into what ostensibly are considered children\u2019s books. I can say without a doubt that they do see and they do appreciate.<\/p>\n

In my book,\u00a0America Discovers C. S. Lewis<\/em>, I conducted a survey of Lewis\u2019s impact on Americans (at least those Americans who responded to the survey in 2014), and quite a few comments centered on the continuing influence of Narnia as people became adults. In reviewing some of those comments, I find them quite revealing.<\/p>\n

For instance, one respondent who was, at that time, completing a doctoral degree, claimed, \u201cLewis is frequently on the tip of my tongue\u2014his characters remain alive in my heart as friends and relatives\u2014his lessons often spring to mind.\u201d Specifically referring to Narnia, he (or she) added this: \u201cAs a doctoral student in theology, I often find connections to Puddleglum or Eustace at the heart of theological arguments.\u201d<\/p>\n
