There’s no Force upon the Earth

It’s my wedding anniversary today, here is this year’s poem/song. This one was a bit of a rush job to produce after coming back from DragonCon, so is a little less polished than I would like.

There’s no Force upon the Earth

There’s no force upon the earth
That will make me doubt your worth;
There’s no place on earth that I would rather be
Than beside you every day, united on our way
To claim the prize that shines eternally.

‘Cause your love is true, and it’s seen me through
So many times of darkness and despair;
You give me strength to stand with your loving hand
And all the signs that you so deeply care.

More than silver, more than gold,
I hope that I grow old
Surrounded by the fruits of our great love;
When bound to you I’m free, you are the one for me,
The girl in the whole world I’m most proud of.

A Tale of the Once And Future King

After a highly enjoyable discussion of the Classic The Once and Future King by T.H. White at DragonCon over the weekend, I was able to makes some new friends and give the premier showing of the promotional video for the Upcoming Superversive Press anthology Tales of the Once and Future King. It was very well received, and I can now share it with you all via the magic of youtube:

A download of the song can be purchased for 99 cents here.

There is also a more orchestral version of the song, in which Sean McCleery again showcases his considerable musical talent:

This version can also be downloaded for the same price here.

In time both versions will also become available from a wide range of music sites. As this is my first foray into the world of professional music, it is an exciting and also daunting prospect.

The Lyrics of the song are below:

A Tale of the Once and Future King

I’ll tell you a tale so your hearts won’t quail
Of the Once and Future King.
Surrounded by heroes, how mighty the cheer rose
At the hope his presence would bring.
With the sword from the stone
For his sins he atoned;
Though he did go away,
He’ll be back here one day
To reclaim his rightful throne.

A shadowy hand stretched over the land
And the people were distressed.
Foul fiends of the night,
Filled with unholy might,
Gave the poor and helpless no rest.
By the power of the cross,
And at great human cost,
They were sent down to hell,
And the land was made well,
So at last they could mourn the lost.

Though we’re pressed on each side
And so many have died,
Now is not the time to despair.
We’re still strong enough
To repel and rebuff
The troops of the Queen of the Air.
We will not concede,
For in our hour of need,
It has long been foretold
That our great king of old
Will be back, and the people freed.

You may mock, you may sneer,
You may laugh out of fear,
At the hope I claim to bring:
Mere stories for children,
Or gullible pilgrims,
Of a good and righteous king?
Yet he stands in your midst
And will not be dismissed;
His heroes beside him,
His people uniting,
In his army we enlist!

The Superversive is Everywhere. Join the Chorus!

Since I began writing here at SuperversiveSF, I’ve emphasized already-existing examples of the Superversive. The reason is simple: so that, when you’re talking to others, you have ready examples to point to of existing works that are popular, influential, or both. This matters when persuading others, because if they can associate the Superversive concept with things they already know (and, hopefully, like) then getting them to look into what the Superversive Movement has to offer becomes easier.

By the same token, we should seek out others working in those other media and encourage them in creating their own Superversive works. Comics, films, poems, statuary, paintings- whatever. As the word grows (and it will), so will more flock to the banners, and with that change comes the opportunity to make visible the invisible damage done to our cultures worldwide- and then to present the replacements that repair and rejuvenate it.

Which is why I’m making a shift in my posting topic. Rather than show you more of what is already there, I want to show you how to add your voice to that mighty chorus and sing forth again the Song of Creation that made this beautiful world possible.

You’ve seen where the Superversive exists, and have taken from there into yourself. Now? Now we make our own, here, and bring it forth unto there and harmonize with that infinite chorus to carry the music forward yet another generation and drown out the discord of the subversive that seeks to reduce one and all to nameless goo under some disposable psuedo-culture. Write, draw, sculpt, play- however you do, do here and do now. Come join the chorus.

Music to Write Catholic Vampires To

One of the joys of writing, for me, is the excuse to play through a ton of music. It’s basically a soundtrack in my head, like with any film. This would probably explain that I tend to listen to a lot of John Williams and Hans Zimmer while I write.

Though of all the books in the Love at First Bite series, Good to the Last Drop is the one where I’ve used the most music while writing through everything. Heck, there are at least one or two chapters where I did nothing but play these pieces on a loop.

Some may need some explaining.

Some are even spoilery.

But I don’t think It’ll be too much of a problem if I post these here.

Heh

Our first, Within Temption: In the Middle of the Night

This one almost work for my main character, Marco Catalano. Heck, if this doesn’t sound like a Marco theme song, nothing does. It was perfect for several of the opening chapters, which took place over the course of one night. One very, very long night. With a lot of shooting, and a lot of vampire minions… who explode.

Our Solemn Hour

This one …  mostly just sounded cool. Though there’s a lot of lyrics here that could match the book, if you cared to play mix and match. I don’t. It was just fun.

A Demon’s Fate

This one is just amusing on several different levels. In part because I’ve already used this for a villain’s theme. Either it’s a spoiler, or maybe I just like the song.

Cruxshadows: Helios

Sorry I don’t have a lyrics video for this one. I guess I’d have to make one if I wanted it. But in any event, this was also an early chapter. In part, it was a fight scene. In part, because it was a relationship song. Listen when you’re halfway through, maybe you’ll hear it.

Winterborn

This was for Chapter 20….

Chapter 20 was awesome. I didn’t see it coming.

I didn’t even like the person I killed there.

But damn, did it work.

Angelus Everlasting

This is one that I put on a loop during a chapter. It’s during the final shootout. It works as one part character development, and one part battle music.

 Nightwish: Ever dream
The final battle. If you listen to just the last half of the song, you can hear it ratchet up the drama and the tension, until you can almost see the firefight going on, can’t you?  It’s a bit of a love song. It’s a bit of a battle song. And again, this is what I looped for our final shootout.

Order, or preorder, any or all of Love at First Bite here.

An unintentional anthem for the modern Right?

We don’t normally do too much about politics over here, but I thought this was interesting. The punk band Anti-Flag, a collection of lefty anarchist types, penned a song called Turncoat back in 2012 (or there about). It could easily act as an anthem for conservatives, libertarians and the rest of the right today without any difficulty at all. Not sure what Anti Flag would make of that.

TURNCOAT! KILLER! LIAR! THIEF!
Criminal with protection of the law!

Go!

States lies dressed up as evening news
We’re tired of lies we want the truth
Brodcast by corpses courting you
We’re tired of lies we want the truth
Most people they will never know
We’re tired of lies we want the truth
With your or against you?
Then I am against you because you’re a…

TURNCOAT! KILLER! LIAR! THIEF!
Criminal with protection of the law

TURNCOAT! KILLER! LIAR! THIEF!
Criminal with protection of the law

In your corner
Makes me wanna
Douse myself in gasoline!
Civil servants fall in line for you
Too brainwashed to see the truth
You use anyone you can!

TURNCOAT! KILLER! LIAR! THIEF!
Criminal with protection of the law

TURNCOAT! KILLER! LIAR! THIEF!
Criminal with protection of the

KILLER!

LIAR!

A TURNCOAT! and a THIEF!

Criminal with protection of the law! The law!
Criminal with protection of the law!
