Superversive Press Statement Regarding Current SFWA Leadership

It is with a heavy heart that I feel compelled to issue a statement from Superversive Press. After the behaviour of Science Fiction Writers of America’s (SFWA) president Cat Rambo on Twitter (@Catrambo) in response to the revelations contained in Moira Greyland Peat’s book The Last Closet: The Dark Side of Avalon. Superversive Press is stunned that a leader of an organisation like SFWA could have such a shockingly callous and dismissive attitude.

It is simply unconscionable that anybody could treat the horrific sexual abuse of an innocent child as a matter worthy of such flippant disdain.

Superversive Press would encourage all people of good conscience to call for the immediate removal of Cat Rambo as SFWA president, and Superversive Press has no interest in working with people who share Cat Rambo’s indifferent attitude towards child sexual abuse committed by writers the SFWA has honoured and awarded. Who knows what other crimes she would ignore, defend or cover up for writers the SFWA approves of?

    Yes. Remove her now.

    Screaming “alt-right!” isn’t an argument.

Now that “racist-sexist-homophobe” is getting old, they have a new way to summarily dismiss opponents. OR so they think.

  • For Superversive to try to exploit child abuse as a way of attacking sections of SF it dislikes for ideological reasons is frankly disgusting. The victims and survivors of child abuse aren’t a plaything for use to score points with, and they most certainly should NOT be used as a marketing gimmick to promote a book from Castalia house.

    Do better.

As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I am very pleased to see a nonfiction memoir of another abuse survivor being published. Getting our stories told is not a gimmick. In fact, it’s rare to see a publisher who is willing to handle a topic that is sure to arouse so much controversy.

That guy has a juicy turd for a brain. It’s okay for SJWs to cover for a pedo and her pedo husband for decades, but then have a ’tism storm when it turns out their lesbian feminist idol is actually doing to her children what she wrote about in her novels? Yea sounds legit.

Outrage is the right emotion here. But they should rage at Tor and the SFWA for covering for a pedo to promote their dangerous ideology.

  • You have to wonder about the quality of her character if she thought her retort was a reasonable response to Moira’s painful history. In fact, you don’t have to wonder. It is right there in the open, ugly and corrupted, for the world to see.

Her reaction, using cheap political shots when the issue at hand is not political, tells me there are a lot of rotten skeletons in SFWA’s closet. It also tells me they won’t condemn MZB and her cohort of disgusting freaks.

I’d say be very, very careful here. You’d think paedophilia would be an easy thing to condemn. Why make it about politics when the ugliness is real and proven in front of you?

I suspect maybe a fear that once you open that door a lot more than just MZB’s depravity will fall out. It will shine the light on other people and that would taint SFWA which is something Cat doesn’t want. Who knows.

But if you can readily condemn Lovecraft’s written racism, you sure as hell can condemn MZB and her vile husband’s active and real-world paedophilia. Failure to do so means you condone and approve of this conduct.

  • You have to wonder about the quality of a person’s character who considered this retort a reasonable and proper response to Moira’s painful history. As it stands, you don’t have to wonder too much. It is right there in the open, ugly and corrupted, for the world to see.

Perhaps you should ask Moira what she thinks of the statement. She tends to be very available.

    • Bellomy

Sorry, meant to be a response to below.

Is Mr Delaney still a member? Would being one of NAMBLA’s spokespervs count as a black mark on the SFWA?
